Barb, age 88 years, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2016 at her home. She was born in Bay City on November 4, 1928 to the late Edward C. and Vera G. (Fargo) Smith. She was a graduate of Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia. Barb was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and was active with the Junior Choir. She enjoyed horse racing and made many trips to the pre-Kentucky Derby races. She was an Honorary Kentucky Colonel. On May 24, 1952, she married Walter F. Keeler and he preceded her in death on December 27, 2002. Survivors include her children: Chuck (Keli) Keeler, Andy (Ellen) Keeler and Nancy Keeler, 5 grandchildren: Jennifer (Mike) Loria, Scott (Erin Katz) Keeler, Alan Keeler, Brad (Devon) Keeler and Amy (Chris) Runburg, 12 great-grandchildren, several nieces, a sister-in-law, Martha Keeler, a special cousin, Elizabeth (Chuck) Atkari and a special friend, Carolyn (Howard) Johnson. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Bryan Bush, a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Wilson Ward and a special cousin, Billie Smith. Funeral Service will be on Friday, December 23, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church. The Rev. Susan C. Rich will officiate. Cremation will follow and the cremated remains of Barb and her husband, Walter, will be joined together at Trinity Episcopal Church Columbarium for their final journey. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 22, 2016 from 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. at Penzien-Steele Funeral Home. She will lie in state at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until service time. Memorial contributions can be made to Trinity Episcopal Church or Heartland Hospice.
