Betty Barbara Proctor, age 83 years, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Mercy Hospital in Muskegon, Michigan. She was born on August 4, 1933 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Oscar and Gladys (Heinlein) Schemm. Betty retired from General Motors, having worked many years at Saginaw Steering Gear, Nodular Iron and Grey Iron Foundries in data processing. She was an avid golfer, loved shopping and spending time with her grandchildren and made the world's best German butter horns. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Bellaire and was well known around town. On August 8, 1953 she married Guy (Red) W. Proctor and he preceded her in death on September 6, 2008. She is survived by her children: Denise (David) Rowland and Danny (Janice) Proctor, 6 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers: John (Bev) Schemm and Jim (Lilian) Schemm, as well as a sister-in-law, Margaret Schemm. She was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Proctor and a brother, Robert Schemm. Funeral service will be on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Richville. The Rev. Wade Seaver will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Vassar. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 from 3-7 p.m. at Penzien-Steele Funeral Home, 149 N. Main St., Vassar. She will lie in state at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time. Memorial contributions can be made to Hope Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 160, Bellaire, Michigan 49615.
