Coral Jane Bender, age 83 years, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Covenant Healthcare in Saginaw. She was born on April 1, 1933 in Turner, Michigan the daughter of the late Wesley and Evelyn (Lambert) Viele. Coral Jane and Robert R. Bender were united in marriage on September 15, 1951 in Vassar and he preceded her in death in September of 2004. Coral Jane was employed at General Motors Chevrolet Division and Super Foods for many years as a Cost Accountant. She was a member of St. Luke's Ev. Lutheran Church. Coral Jane was an avid reader, she enjoyed traveling, watching movies, cheering on the Michigan State Spartans and loved spending time with her grandkids.

Surviving family include her son, Don (Julie) Bender; grandchildren, Allison Bender, Molly Bender and Maxwell Bender; great-grandchildren, Aria Ross, Reagan Garvin and Kiera and Logan Ross; also surviving are her brothers, Paul Viele and Lynn (Iris) Viele; sisters-in-law, Pat Viele and Marilyn Graubner; brothers-in-law, Martin Bender and Chuck Olmstead and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Coral Jane was preceded in death by her brother, Mike Viele.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2016 at St. Luke's Ev. Lutheran Church, 916 W. Huron Ave. in Vassar. Pastor James Plocher officiating, with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery in Vassar. The family will greet friends on Sunday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Penzien-Steele Funeral Home, 149 N. Main St. in Vassar and on Monday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. Those desiring may make contributions to St. Luke's Ev. Lutheran Church.
