Dorothea Emma Hayward, age 92 years, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Bay Medical Care Facility. She was born in Munger, Michigan on June 15, 1924 to the late William and Emma (Gollin) Hopp. She was currently a member of Trinity St. James Lutheran Church in Munger, its Ladies Aid and Missionary League. She married Howard Hayward on February 12, 1949 at St. James Lutheran Church in Munger. Dorothea and Howard owned Hayward's Melon Farm for many decades and made lifelong friends selling their wonderful Honey Rocks. Howard preceded her in death on May 28, 2010. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Scott, her grandchildren, Cassie (Steve) Shockley and Travis Hayward, her great-grandchildren Caleb Hayward, Carter Hayward and Ava Shockley, as well as her sisters-in-law, Elsa Hopp and Olive Schmidt. She was preceded in death by a son, Paul Gregory Hayward, her grandson, Paul (J.R.) Hayward, her brothers, Arnold and William Hopp, her sisters-in-law, Madeline Hopp, Verna Hopp and Betty Hayward, and brothers-in-law, Wes Hayward and Robert Schmidt. Funeral and Committal Services will be on Monday, April 10, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Trinity St James Lutheran Church in Munger. The Rev. Michael G. Stahl will officiate. Private interment will be in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call at Penzien-Steele Funeral Home on Sunday, April 9, 2017 from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. She will lie in state at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until service time. Those desiring may make contributions to Trinity St. James Lutheran Church in Munger.
