Elmer Frank Gerish was born in Bay City, MI on December 28, 1921 to the late Frank and Lydia (Schnell) Gerish. He passed away at Huron Woods Nursing Home on June 29, 2017 to join his wife on which would have been their seventy-first anniversary. Elmer served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of V.F.W. Post 6950 in Kawkawlin. He was a member of the North Euclid Church of God and low vision. Elmer retired from Means Manufacturing in Vassar.
Elmer married Ruth Densmore on June 29, 1946 and she preceded him in death on November 5, 2015. Survivors include his son Mike (Barb) Gerish and daughter Denise Gerish, his grandchildren: Zac, Sandra, Shawna (John), great grandchildren: Zoe Ruth and Everett, his brother Bob (Betty) Gerish. He was preceded in death by a daughter Suzanne Gerish, a brother Ray Gerish, a sister Dorothy and a granddaughter-in-law April Gerish.
Elmer enjoyed archery, hunting, fishing, bowling and wood carving as well as trailer camping and traveling to Florida in the winter.
Funeral and committal service will be Monday, July3, 2017 at the North Euclid Church of God at 2 p.m. Pastor Brad Windlan will officiate. Private burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to his church. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 4 to 8 at Penzien-Steele Funeral Home where Military Rites will take place at 5 p.m. He will lie in state at the church on Monday from 1 p.m. until service time.
