Erma Pearl Whitaker, age 96 years, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at her home. She was born on October 9, 1920 in Pollard, Arkansas to the late John and Buelah (Wallis) Lingle. On June 22, 1937, she married Wilburn Whitaker and he preceded her in death on June 15, 2007. Erma was a member of Millington Baptist Church. Survivors include 3 children: Delane Whitaker, Barbara (Ray) Crandall and Ermazine Woodward, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and a brother, Monroe (Jane) Lingle. She was preceded in death by a son, James Whitaker, 3 grandsons: Daniel Crandall, Aaron Whitaker and Jason Whitaker, as well as many brothers and sisters. Funeral Service will be on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Millington Baptist Church. The Rev. Kenneth L. Hoard will officiate. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Arbela Township. Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. at Penzien-Steele Funeral Home, 149 N. Main St., Vassar. She will lie in state at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time. Memorial contributions can be made to Millington Baptist Church.
