Frederick Arnold Emling, age 85 years, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2014, at Cartwright Residence in Saginaw. He was born on April 10, 1929 in Detroit, the son of the late Eli and Maida (Kittendorf) Emling. On December 5, 1964 he married Frances Mossner, and after almost fifty years together, she survives him. Fritz graduated from Denby High School in 1947 and went on to Michigan Normal College (Eastern Michigan University) to study pre-med. He graduated in 1957 from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine and then interned at Saginaw Osteopathic Hospital. Fritz began his private family practice in Vassar with Dr. Allan Shelp in 1959. He would go onto serve the Vassar community until leaving the practice in 1984 to work for the State of Michigan at the Caro Regional Center. After a career spanning almost forty years, Fritz retired in 1996. His medical affiliations include the American College of Osteopathic Medicine, Michigan Association of Osteopathic Medicine and the Michigan Association of Osteopathic Family Practice. He was a member of St. Luke's Ev. Lutheran Church, where he served as an Elder and an Usher. Fritz was one of the founding members and Past President of the Vassar Golf and Country Club and belonged to the Vassar Fishing Club for many years. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed skiing. Fritz loved God, his family, his practice and his friends.

Surviving are his loving family, wife, Frances; daughter, Laura (Todd) White; son, Paul (Jill) Emling; grandchildren, Mason White and Hagan Emling; his sister, Madelyn (Joe) Beel; sisters and brothers-in-law, Roy (Barbara) Mossner, Glenn (Marlene) Mossner, Alice (David) Wigley, Marian Mossner and Dorothy Mossner; and many nieces and nephews. Fritz was preceded in death by his brothers, Woodrow, Durell and Gerald Emling; an infant sister, Margarite; and his sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruben and Carl Mossner and Evelyn, Bert and Mary Emling.

The funeral and committal service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 5, 2014, at the St. Luke's Ev. Lutheran Church, 916 W. Huron Ave. in Vassar. Pastor James Plocher and Pastor Christopher White officiating. Private burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Penzien-Steele Funeral Home, 149 N. Main St. in Vassar. Fritz will lie instate at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Those desiring may make contributions to St. Luke's Ev. Lutheran Church or St. Luke's Scholarship Fund or Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine.
