Christmas in Heaven, how glorious and grand
that on Christmas Eve the Lord took her hand.
With strong Christian faith, secure in God's love
Irene left this world for her home high above.
Reunited in heaven with countless so dear,
She leaves behind many who'll miss her from here.
Irene Bublitz, age 91, was called to her eternal home on Sunday, December 24, 2017. Irene Esther (Meyer) Bublitz was born June 25, 1926 to Esther and Andrew Meyer in Munger, MI. She attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Merritt Township. It was there that she met the classmate who would one day become her beloved husband, and it was there that they were confirmed together on May 4, 1941. On April 3, 1948 Irene married that school sweetheart, Harold Herman Bublitz. God blessed them with 57 wonderful years of marriage and 8 beloved children. Harold preceded her in death on April 17, 2005.
The fifth of eleven children, Irene was very close to, and deeply loved, her family. She grew up working on the family farm and learned how to become an amazing cook. Jesus said, "Feed my lambs," and Irene responded, "Lord, here I am!" Never did an expected or unexpected guest leave Irene's house with an empty belly. Her baked beans, homemade cookies, and apple crisp were favorites of family and friends. Irene was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and their Ladies Aid. For five decades she was an active ARC member. She was a card shark who loved to play Euchre. Very often lucky in her card playing, she delighted in a good hand and on occasion enjoyed proclaiming, "Sometimes you've gotta be like Columbus and take a chance. Pick it up!"
Irene is survived by six children: Sheryl (Frank) Schumitsch of Grand Blanc, Philip (Jeanette) Bublitz of Bay City, Dar (Felix) Sciulli of Seattle, WA, Pamela (Kenneth) DeWyse, Kevin (Kimberly) Bublitz, and Karen (Rick Gettel) Bublitz all of Bay City. Two children preceded her in death, Larry in 1951 and Lana in 1993, as well as a daughter-in-law, Sheri Bublitz in 1987. Eight of her brothers and sisters also preceded her in death: Herman Meyer, Geraldine Estherhai, Marge Ryers, Carl Meyer, Mabel Farnsworth, Loretta Felske, Pearl Grassmeyer, and Marie Reiss. She leaves behind 13 grandchildren who loved her dearly: Kara & Kellen Klosowski, Steve (Sarah) & Paul (Meagan) Bublitz, Jeffrey (Megan) & Scott (Sara) DeWyse, Jessica (Phil) Manning, David, Daniel, Janelle, & Julia Bublitz, and Mackenzie (fiancé Wade Englehardt) & Mariah Kucera. She also leaves 13 great-grandchildren: Trevor, Alyssa, Logan, Easton, Carter, & Wyatt Bublitz, Katelynn, Aubrey, Ryleigh, Blake, & Jenna DeWyse, and Lucas Manning. One sister and one brother mourn her passing; Carol Jean (Joe) Pasionek, and Andy (Carol) Meyer. In addition, she is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff of Close to Home-Hampton and Southern Care Hospice for the compassionate care shown to Irene and support to all the family.
God called you home and although we are sad, we'll find comfort in memories of the times that we've had. You were a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Our love for you will never end. We'll miss your smile, your laugh, your touch. We'll see you later, we LOVE you much!
The funeral service will be on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Kevin C. Jones officiating. Private burial will be at Floral Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call at Penzien- Steele Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. . She will lie in state at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until service time. Memorial contributions can be made to The ARC Bay County, to Hospice, or to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
