John R. Strope, 67, passed away peacefully and gracefully on December 14, 2016 in Phoenix, Arizona surrounded by his family. John worked for Fanuc Robotics building and repairing robots for the auto industry until June of 2016 when he retired. John also worked for NASA as an electrical engineer and was instrumental in the Magellan Spacecraft. John served honorably in the U.S. Army for 12 years. He was highly decorated from his 2 tours in Vietnam. John is survived by his wife, Donna (nee, Sorgenfrei) Strope, 2 sons, Robert Gillard (Sara) and Adam Gillard (Hartini), daughter, Shane Strope, 9 grandchildren, A.J. & Austin Gillard, Nathan Bunger, Gabriella & Lillianna Gillard, Naomi & Elijah Nassy, Marine Huberlant and Cory Strope, his sister, Janell (David) Henderson of Pekin, IL and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made the Volunteer Services of the Aleda E. Lutz V.A. Medical Center in Saginaw. Private interment will take place at Floral Gardens Cemetery. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
