Leon Harold Dykhouse, age 89 years, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, June 27, 2016 at the Carriage House of Bay City with his wife and daughters at his side. He was born on September 28, 1926 in Vassar, Michigan the son of the late Clarence and Dena (Hamberg) Dykhouse. On October 16, 1954 he married Arleen Jolley at the Croswell Methodist Church. Leon served in the Merchant Marines during WWII and also in the US Army during the Korean War. He was the owner and operator of Dykhouse Pickle Company Inc., where he worked all of his life. Leon was a lifelong member of the Vassar First United Methodist Church. Through the years his memberships included; Past Commodore of Saginaw Bay Yacht Club, Past Commander of the Saginaw Bay Power Squadron, Northeast Michigan Chapter of the Studebaker Drivers Club, the Great Lakes Cruising Club and Past Master of the Vassar Lodge No.163 F.&A.M.

Surviving family include his wife of 61 years, Arleen; daughters, Barbara (James) Kuhnle of Vassar and Judith (Gary) Williams of Katy, Texas; and his grandchildren, Arthur and Katherine Williams.

Funeral and committal services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 1, 2016 at the Vassar First United Methodist Church, 139 N. Main St. in Vassar. The Rev. Scott Sherrill officiating. Private burial will follow at Pilgrim Home Cemetery in Holland, Michigan. The family will greet friends on Thursday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Penzien-Steele Funeral Home, 129 N. Main St. in Vassar. Leon will lie in state at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of his funeral service. Those desiring may make contributions to the Vassar First United Methodist Church or the Bullard Sanford Memorial Library.
