Our loving Mother, Marjorie H. Sommer, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at McLaren Bay Region at the age of 93. She was born on April 23, 1923 to the late Louis and Amalie Nuenke. Marjorie was an active member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Essexville. She had worked as a secretary for Kuhlman Electric Co. in Bay City and also for the State of Michigan. She married Clarence E. Sommer and he preceded her in death on March 15, 2014. Survivors include her sons: David Clarence Sommer and Gerald Earl (Anne) Sommer, her grandchildren: Brian (Tracy) Sommer and Hannah Sommer, as well as her sisters-in-law, Arlene Younker and Gloria Nuenke. She was preceded in death by her brothers: Louis and Harry Nuenke. Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Essexville. The Rev. Eric A. Stone will officiate. Private interment will be in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, February 27, 2017 from 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. at Penzien-Steele Funeral Home. She will lie in state at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until service time. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Luke's United Methodist Church, the American Cancer Society or The American Diabetes Association.
