Melanie Lynn Amon, age 41 years, passed away suddenly on Thursday, February 9, 2017. She was born on February 10, 1975 in Coldwater, Michigan, the daughter of Rex and Gail Amon. Mel graduated from Camden High School in 1993. She worked for many years as a waitress, most recently at Slo'Bones BBQ and T-Dubs in Frankenmuth and Tony's Restaurant in Birch Run. Mel enjoyed traveling and loved to spend time with her family and friends.

Surviving family include her sons, Hunter (Lexie Deming) Shourds and Tyler Payton; daughter, Addison Amon; mother; Gail Amon; Father, Rex Amon; brother, Matthew (Tasha) Amon; uncle, John Myers; nephew, Logan; nieces, Riley and Lilliana; and many loving friends, aunts, uncles and cousins. Mel was preceded in death by her grandparents, Rex and Thelma Amon, Charles Turner and Audrey Myers.

A memorial service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Vassar Victory Center, 800 S. State Rd. in Vassar, MI 48768. The family will greet friends and family on Friday, February 24, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Penzien-Steele Funeral Home, 149 N. Main St. in Vassar and from 12 noon until the time of the service on Saturday at the church. Private interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Vassar. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to a Scholarship Fund for Addison (C/O of the Frankenmuth Credit Union, 602 S. State Rd. in Vassar, MI 48768).
