Noreen Lila Howell was born in Saginaw, MI on May 28, 1921 to the late Harold and Agnes (Loesel) Sanderson. She passed away January 14, 2017 at Bay Shores Nursing Center in Bay City, MI.
Noreen was a longtime active member of St. John Lutheran church on Second and Federal in Saginaw where she was baptized and confirmed. She was a member of the St. John Ladies Aid serving as president for 2 years. She was also dining room chairman for funeral dinners and taught Sunday school for several years. Noreen was a Red Cross volunteer for 3 years at the former St. Luke's Hospital in Saginaw during World War II. She married Charles F. Howell on June 19, 1948 at St. John Lutheran Church and he preceded her in death on January 6, 2010 after 61 years of marriage. She worked at Lufkin Rule Co. for 10 years.
Survivors include her daughters: Barbara (Keith) Markstrom and their children: Emily (Andy) Robb and Adam Markstrom and Nancy (Rev. James) Wenger and their children Erin Wenger and U. S. Army Private Benjamin Wenger, a great grandchild Brett Robb and one to be born in April, niece Dawn Stewart and a nephew Jeff Sanderson. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers Donald and Marvin Sanderson.
Funeral service will be Friday, January 20, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 501 S. Catherine at Thomas in Bay City. The Rev. Andreas Teich will officiate. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Saginaw. Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church or Bay Shores Nursing Center Activities Fund. Visiting hours will be Thursday, January 19, 2017 from 12 noon until 6 p.m. at Penzien-Steele Funeral Home, 608 N. Madison Ave. (M-25) Bay City. She will lie in state at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until service time.
