Rodney Jay Pasch, 60, our giving and loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend passed away at home on November 16, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Rod was born in Bay City on February 12, 1956 to the late Harold and Dorothy (Steggall) Pasch. He married the former Linda LaLonde in Visitation Church on October 9, 1976 and they recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. He retired from Wirt Stone Dock after many years of service. A special thanks to his boss and friend, Doug Wirt, for all of his support during Rod's illness. He enjoyed boating, deer hunting and snowmobiling. He was a member of the Nut House Yacht Club where he was famous for the garlic shrimp found on his grill every River Roar and 4th of July. He also enjoyed all the vacations he and Linda took over the years, including camping when their kids were young with extended family and best friends John and Pam Sowinski and John and Pam Whalen and their families. He especially loved all the vacations spent with best friends Rob and Jan Kalmes.
Rod was a great story teller and loved being the center of attention as anyone who knew him can attest. He was always quick with a joke and could find humor in any situation. He was a faithful member of All Saints Parish and volunteered and served in many ways. He was a past member of the Parish Finance Commission, and he and Linda served as mentors over the years for engaged couples preparing for marriage.
In addition to his wife Linda, he is survived by his loving children: Kevin (Emily) Pasch of Maumee, OH and Jenae (Jay) Schabel of Bay City; his grandchildren who have been the joy in his life these past few years, Reagan and Baylee Schabel and Mirabel Pasch; and his constant companion, Eli. He is also survived by his sister Darcy (Carl) Ruffertshofer and his brother Jeff (Linda) Pasch; his brothers-in-law Larry (Kayleen) LaLonde, Jim (Kathy) LaLonde, Joe (Sue) LaLonde, and Tim (Kristy) LaLonde. He was a favorite uncle to his many nieces and nephews and a good friend to many.
Rod's family will be present to receive visitors on Friday from 1 to 8 p.m. at Penzien-Steele Funeral Home, 608 N. Madison Ave., Bay City, MI 48708. The Vigil for the Deceased will be at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at All Saints Parish (St. James Church) on Saturday, November 19, 2016 from 9 a.m. until the Funeral Liturgy at 10 a.m. The Rev. Fr. Robert DeLand will preside with the Rite of Committal to follow at St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Parish (Langley Fund), Heartland Hospice or to University of Iowa Hospitals Neuroendocrine Cancer Research. Our family would like to thank all who have shown love and support during this time, and a special thank you to our hospice nurse, Whitney Embick.
