Sheila A. Digby was born in Britton, South Dakota on January 25, 1918 to the late Clare Roy and Floy (Sisson) Murphy. She passed away peacefully at her home on December 23, 2017. Sheila was a very active and devoted member of First Congregational Church since the age of 7. She was a graduate of Michigan State University and a member of the American Association of University Women. She retired from Chemical Bank and Trust Company in 1985 where she held positions of teller and Assistant Manager. She was a member of the Elk's retiree's wives and was an avid bridge player. Her family and friends will remember her as a woman with immense strength and resilience.
On May 28, 1942 (Memorial Day) she married Charles W. Digby and he preceded her in death on August 18, 1985. She is survived by her son James (Tracey) Digby, her grandchildren: Randall (Dana) Digby, Russell Digby and Taylor (Chris, M.D.) Digby-Benell, her great grandchildren: Nicholas (Jessica) Digby, Brandon (Caroline) Digby, Randall Digby and Lucas Benell, and four great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son Richard C. Digby and her sister Elna Rushman.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on January 25, 2018 @ 11:00 am, what would have been her 100th Birthday. Kellie French her close friend will officiate the service at First Congregational Church. A private burial will be at Elm Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Penzien-Steele Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Memorial tributes may be made to First Congregational Church.
